Ukraine International Airlines (UIA),Kyiv, Ukraine, Mon, July, 20, 2015
As Ukraine`s flagairline actively introducing the model of a transit carrier from West to Eastand from North to South, Ukraine International Airlines regards deregulation ofair traffic between Ukraine and the EU to be an overwhelmingly important stageof Ukraine`s integration into global aviation community. That`s why UIA askedthe European Commission to make a strong contribution to accelerate the processand commence as soon as possible the conclusion procedure for the CommonAviation Area Agreement.
July 17, 2015, UIA sent the following formal letter to Jean-Claude Juncker, President EuropeanCommission:
“UIA addresses theEuropean Commission with an issue of the highest importance to Ukraine,Ukrainian carriers, and passengers.
As the Ukrainianflag carrier and member of IATA and Association of European Airlines (AEA),Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) is concerned with the fact that theAgreement on Common Aviation Area between Ukraine and the European Union isstill not concluded. Currently, the case of Gibraltar-related wording is theonly impediment from EU side to the Agreement conclusion, while it seems thereare no barriers on the part of Ukraine.
The Agreement onCommon Aviation Area between Ukraine and the EU will boost numerousimprovements in aviation rules and standards in Ukraine, will open furthermarket opportunities and economic benefits on both sides, will remove most ofremaining limitations between Ukraine and the EU in air transportations, aswell as establish free and fair competition.
Moreover, Ukraine`saccession to Common Aviation Area will help realize the country`s aviationpotential, exploit transit opportunities, encourage Ukraine`s carriers to raiseoperational safety, quality and service standards, facilitate the developmentof airlines and the consolidation of the sector, bring new opportunities forconsumers.
As the leadingUkraine`s carrier, Ukraine International Airlines ask the European Commissionto make a strong contribution to accelerate the process and commence as soon aspossible the conclusion procedure for the Common Aviation Area Agreement.
Beyond that, liberalization of air traffic between Ukraine and the East is of criticalimportance to further development of our country`s transit potential. Therefore, UIA encourages the Commission to join the efforts of Ukrainianaviation authorities and help gain access to the overregulated eastern markets. It will allow gradually opening the respective aviation markets and expandingflight opportunities between Europe and Asia.
