On February 28, 2012, international arbitration lawyers with Vasil Kisil & Partners Pavlo Byelousov and Galyna Shyller took part in the regular meeting of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Ukrainian Bar Association on "Advantages and disadvantages of alternative dispute resolution (ADR)".

During the meeting, a comparative analysis of arbitration, mediation court and conciliation as the main alternative methods of dispute resolution was performed, and a discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of alternative ways of resolving disputes took place. Event participants shared examples from their own practice, focusing on the appropriateness of mediation for various disputes that may arise, as well as on motivating and attracting customers to ADR.

However, the main objective of this committee was to discuss a seemingly unpopular in Ukraine alternative method of dispute resolution that is mediation. This debate has generated keen interest of committee members who were eager to weigh in on the use of this procedure as an alternative to arbitration or judicial proceedings.
