TEDP Launches Entrepreneur Development series
CRDF Global, Arlington, VA, USA
February 07, 2012
TEDP organized a unique effort to advance Russia’s innovation ecosystem by helping promising science and technology innovators build globally competitive businesses while training a cadre of technology transfer professionals. The Commercialization Pathfinder program, created in partnership with the University of Texas at Austin’s IC2 Institute, combines a suite of online training and one-on-one mentorship components to prepare participants as they bring their innovations to the marketplace.
The first track of Commercialization Pathfinder, launched September 17, was a “train the trainer” session to prepare a cohort of 29 technology commercialization professionals from Russia to mentor aspiring innovators, and emerging technology entrepreneurs. Over four weeks, program participants familiarized themselves with an online curriculum and methodology by completing a ten-module training session, quizzes, and assignments, all with the assistance of IC2 and CRDF Global staff. Participants gained practical knowledge of commercialization techniques, new ideas for teaching curriculum and received guidance for completion of a new innovation project.
Starting in October, Entrepreneurship Development (ED), the second track of Commercialization Pathfinder, was based around a six-week online training platform developed by the IC2 Institute. The program will guide 200 up-and-coming innovators through the technology commercialization process, covering pitching techniques, business development strategies and how to effectively apply for funding. Upon completion of the online training, participants will submit business pitches to an expert panel, and the top 20 candidates will be offered an opportunity to participate in a two-day intensive boot camp to refine their business models and pitches. The boot camp will culminate in a competition where participants will pitch their business ideas before a panel of representatives from the Russian commercial and investment communities. Four winners will receive a grant to travel to the United States for further guidance from experts in the field and to network with investors and professionals.
