April 3-4, 2013, VKP's Managing Partner Oleg Makarov participated in the IX Annual Law Forum of Russia, organized by the “Vedomosti” newspaper in Moscow at "Marriott Royal Aurora" hotel.

This law forum is a well recognized in the legal community as a platform for business executives, corporate in-house counsel, external consultants, as well as judiciary and legal establishment who come together to address legislative challenges and facilitate the development of business in Russia's real economy sector.

A key theme of the 2013 forum was how to increase the attractiveness and the competitiveness of Russian law and thus attract investors to the Russian economy. Discussions focused on issues of legal support to the financial sector, as well as problems of antitrust and tax laws. Judicial reform and the efficiency of execution of court rulings were also centre-stage issues of this year's forum.

Considerable interest among attendees was generated by the discussion of current trends in the legal market of Russia and the impact of the economic crisis on law firms' operation. In his speech, Mr Makarov highlighted the importance of strategic corporate planning, in-depth analysis of the internal and external factors affecting the business, as well as the significance of timely changes within the company to ensure successful development in unstable economy. An acknowledged expert in this field and one of the best top-managers of Ukraine, Oleg Makarov presented his view on the development of partnership and shared the experience of building an effective business model using the example of "Vasil Kisil & Partners" law firm.
