On March 20, 2012, Oleg Makarov, a big-name lawyer and a managing partner of Vasil Kisil & Partners Law Firm, met with future attorneys at the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv. This event was part of the “Meetings with Renowned Attorneys” project, organized by the Attorneys-to-Be Club of the Ukrainian Advocates Association together with the Students League of the Ukrainian Bar Association and the Faculty of Law of the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv.

At the beginning of the meeting, Oleg Makarov, one of VKP's founding partners, walked students through the history of the firm, the stages an association of attorneys goes through in its development and outlined key components of the legal business. Mr Makarov also shared with the audience what day-to-day life at VKP is all about, what are the main stages and terms of career progression at firm. He also touched upon the basis of partnership and described the terms of VKP's cooperation with foreign partner firms. At the end of his speech, Oleg drew students' attention to the specifics of how the new players enter the market for legal services in Ukraine.

The second part of the meeting had the format of a frank and meaningful discussions. All interested persons had an opportunity to ask questions and interact with the guest speaker. During the Q&A session, Oleg Makarov shared with the audience his experience of managing a legal business, and gave professional advice and keynote ideas for future lawyers on the verge of starting their career in this business. In particular, Oleg emphasised key components of a future lawyer success, which, in his opinion, are the fundamental knowledge gained at the alma mater, and the drive to make it in the legal arena.

According to Oleg it is equally important for future lawyers to have a clear understanding of the legal profession, which does not come easy, so you need to make informed choices and clearly define the vectors of your interests.
